The City of Stanley is accepting applications for a Department of Public Works (DPW) Employee with job emphasis being in the Water Treatment Plant (WTP).
Public Works Employee Job Description:
This position is under the direct supervision of the Water operator in Charge and reports to the Administrator and City Council. This position involves a variety of duties to carry out the day to day operations of the public works department in a safe and efficient manner. The majority of the work duties will be in the water department.
Duties
- Repair and maintenance of the sanitary sewers and water mains. Participates in the installation of water services, mains, and sanitary sewer, including excavation, pipe placement, etc.
- Installation of water meters, flushing of hydrants, turning of valves, maintenance and DNR record keeping.
- Operate all City Owned equipment, vehicles, and machinery.
- The ability to operate the Wastewater Treatment Plant
- The ability to operate the Water Treatment Plants and assist with reading meters on a quarterly basis.
- Maintenance and repair of road surfaces, which include the removal of snow and ice from city streets, alleys, and sidewalks. Assure proper sanding and salting of all surfaces for safety purposed.
- Assist with spring and fall clean-up for the city (chip brush and miscellaneous items) for proper disposal.
- Be available for an emergency situation in the city outside of normal business hours. Call-ins may originate from the plants alarm systems, City Crew, the Stanley Police Department, the Stanley Fire Department, or the Chippewa or Clark County Sheriff’s Departments. Assistance would vary depending on the emergency.
- Perform any other duties or tasks assigned by your direct supervisor, the Administrator, or City Council.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Ability to complete assigned tasks without constant supervision. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the general public.
- General knowledge of mechanics, basic chemistry, and electrical systems.
- Must have or immediately obtain a valid State of Wisconsin Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and also maintain it.
- Within three years, applicants must obtain a Grade 1 Water Operator Certification and obtain a Basic Wastewater Operator Certification.
- Willing to work a rotating weekend work schedule.
- Willingness to work a possible shift rotation if future growth requires additional coverage hours in water and/or sewer plant operations.
- After training is completed, the work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and a weekend rotation.
- Recommended to live within 15 minutes of Stanley due to possible call-ins.
The starting hourly wage is $25.00 per hour minimum based upon qualifications, experience and/or certifications held. City of Stanley also provides a fringe benefit package. Successful candidate will work a weekend rotation with paid overtime. Applications can be requested at the City Clerk’s Office located at 353 S.
