Public Works Employee Job Description:

This position is under the direct supervision of the Streets & Grounds Department Head and reports to the Administrator and City Council. This position involves a variety of duties to carry out the day-to-day operations of the public works department in a safe and efficient manner.

 

Duties

  1. Repair and maintenance of the sanitary sewers and water mains. Participates in the installation of water services, mains, and sanitary sewer, including excavation, pipe placement, etc.
  2. Operate all City Owned equipment, vehicles, and machinery.
  3. The ability to operate the Wastewater Treatment Plant
  4. The ability to operate the Water Treatment Plants.
  5. Maintenance and repair of road surfaces, which include the removal of snow and ice from city streets, alleys, and sidewalks. Assure proper sanding and salting of all surfaces for safety purposes.
  6. Assist with spring and fall clean-up for the city (chip brush and miscellaneous items) for proper disposal.
  7. Be available for an emergency in the city. Calls may originate from the City Administrator, the Stanley Police Department, the Stanley Fire Department, or the Chippewa or Clark County Sheriff’s Departments. Assistance would vary depending on the emergency.
  8. Perform any other duties or task assigned by your direct supervisor, the Administrator, or City Council.

Requirements

  1. High School Diploma
  2. Ability to complete assigned tasks without constant supervision. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively with the public.
  4. General knowledge of mechanics, welding, basic chemistry, and electrical systems.
  5. Must have or immediately obtain a valid State of Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B and be able to maintain it.
  6. Within two years, applicants must obtain a Basic Water Operator Certification and within two years obtain Basic Wastewater Operator and Collections Systems Certifications.
  7. Willing to work a rotation schedule on weekends and Holidays.
  8. Willingness to work a possible shift rotation if future growth requires additional coverage hours in other areas.
  9. After training is completed, the work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and a weekend rotation.

 

Wages will be based on qualifications with a minimum of $22.00/hr and a fringe benefit package.
